NOTICE OF HYDRANT FLUSHING
October 16, 2023– October 26, 2023
8 AM – 12 PM
Monday – Thursday

The North Conway Water Precinct will conduct hydrant flushing beginning Monday, October 16th, 2023.

Flushing will begin at the south end of the system near Eagles Way and progress northward.

Hydrant flushing is an important part of routine preventive maintenance to ensure safe, reliable operation of our pipes, valves, and hydrants, and to help maintain the exceptional water quality our customers enjoy.  Over time, sediment and corrosion within pipes can lead to poor water quality and reduced fire protection.  Our hydrant flushing program is designed to remove that sediment and corrosion from the pipes by creating high water velocities within the pipes to "pick up" and "flush" it from the system out of a fire hydrant.  This program also allows staff to inspect and operate hydrants and valves within the system that might otherwise sit untouched for decades, ensuring that they will operate as intended when we really need them.

Because of the nature of how flushing cleans the pipes, customers may experience pressure fluctuations and/or discoloration of the water during flushing.  To minimize impact to customers, we will be focusing our flushing activities between the hours of 8 AM and 12 PM, with some earlier activity possible within the Village limits.  We recommend not washing clothes and using hot water sparingly while flushing is occurring near your property.  If you experience discolored water, run your cold water tap until it clears.  During periods of discoloration, postpone washing clothes and limit your use of hot water until the cold water clears.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Superintendent Jason Gagnon at (603) 356-5382.
