Wastewater Treatment Facility

Water is the foundation of life in the Mount Washington Valley; protection of our water resources is therefore of paramount importance. The North Conway Water Precinct operates a state-of-the-art Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) that collects and treats wastewater from throughout the Mount Washington Valley with the primary goal of protecting the Saco River and its aquifer.

Our WWTF is a highly advanced 5-stage Bardenpho system which is capable of removing excess nutrients from wastewater using biological processes. For an in-depth discussion of how our WWTF works, click here.

We have recently upgraded our septage receiving facility provide more efficient disposal for septage haulers and reduce the cost of disposal for private septic system owners. Our hope is to encourage more disposal of septage at the WWTF, where it can be effectively treated by our advanced WWTF processes. By encouraging septage disposal at the WWTF, our goal is to reduce the amount of septage currently disposed of by land application within the Saco River watershed.
